The Department of Tourism and Business Marketing (Dubai Tourism) organized a virtual forum for stakeholders and partners to give them the opportunity to get updates and key information about the upcoming Expo 2020 and to share an overview of the industry and key developments and initiatives to further accelerate Dubai’s tourism growth.
The forum is part of an ongoing program of industry engagement initiated by Dubai Tourism to further strengthen collaboration with its stakeholders and partners, in particular to capitalize on the growing industry momentum as it approaches. of the region’s first World Expo to be held from October 1, 2021. to March 31, 2022. Sumathi Ramanathan, Vice President, Market Strategy and Sales, Expo 2020 joined the virtual event to make a detailed presentation that covered key aspects of the mega event, including its innovative features, country pavilions, events and entertainment, ticket categories and prices, transportation within the sprawling site, and the health and safety protocols that will be in place in accordance with international standards and practices.

Dubai welcomed nearly 3 million visitors from January to July 2021 and also ranked second in the world ahead of London and Paris in hotel occupancy, with hotels posting average occupancy rates of 61% during the first seven months of 2021. Dubai was one of the first cities in the world to reopen its markets and businesses, and continues to remain open. This was achieved through a gradual and calibrated approach to reopening sectors while ensuring strict adherence to globally compared health and safety protocols. The United Arab Emirates also has one of the highest per capita vaccination rates in the world.
Forum attendees also received a brief overview of each international market, as well as marketing and media communications activities carried out by Dubai Tourism, including its latest global campaign, Dubai Presents featuring Hollywood stars Jessica Alba and Zac Efron. After the launch of the first two cinematic trailers, Spy Action and RomCom, the campaign has generated over 200 million views. The third trailer in the Dubai Presents series, Buddy Comedy was released recently.
Forum participants were also encouraged to take advantage of major festivals and events with the aim of dramatically improving the quality and diversity of the destination’s offerings and events, paving the way for Dubai to strengthen its position as a must-see destination. It was pointed out that various partnership opportunities could be exploited by stakeholders of various festivals and events such as the fifth edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge from October 29 to November 27, the celebrations surrounding the UAE’s 50th anniversary on December 2 and the next edition of the iconic Dubai Shopping Festival, which kicks off in December.
