Our pick of this month’s most exciting hotel launches around the world includes newcomers from Radisson Blu, Curio Collection by Hilton and St Regis.
From the Greek Islands and the Southeastern United States to China’s Shandong Province, these iconic openings combine a luxury hotel experience with a strong consideration for their immediate surroundings.
Radisson Blu Zaffron Resort, Santorini
The Radisson Blu Zaffron Resort opened in Santorini, on the black sand shores of Kamari. This five-star, 103-key property houses a collection of rooms, suites, and two-level villas in a space characterized by a minimalist aesthetic; it is inspired by the architecture of the island with a palette of warm, earthy colors reminiscent of locally harvested saffron. Accommodation has balconies and terraces, while larger rooms, suites and villas also have private Jacuzzis or plunge pools.
Facilities at the resort include the gourmet Italian restaurant Zeffirino Ristorante, where menus pay homage to the Zeffirino family, and gastronomy from the Liguria and Emilia Romagna regions. Guests can relax by two large swimming pools with sun loungers, grab a bite or an exclusive cocktail at the pool bar, and enjoy spa treatments at the Calliste wellness facilities. The hotel, developed by Fais Group with architecture by Gavalas Architects, also houses a conference room that can accommodate up to 80 people.
The Hamilton Alpharetta, Curio Collection by Hilton, Georgia
Alpharetta’s first upscale boutique hotel, The Hamilton Al, a Curio by Hilton collection opened in the heart of the city. Owned and developed by Mayfair Street Partners and managed by Hotel Equities, this program is inspired by the Western & Atlantic Railway for its decor, combining vintage elements with modern design and technology.
The hotel’s 119 rooms and suites are connected by two restaurants showcasing southern French cuisine, Carrie’s Conservatory and Fulton House, as well as the Underground Bar-inspired Roaring Social with eight bowling lanes. Archstudio7 led the exterior design, RBA Architecture was the architect and Mayfair Street Partners worked on the interior design of this unique property, with Evergreen Construction acting as the general contractor.
The St Regis Qingdao
St Regis made its debut in Qingdao with the opening of a five-star hotel occupying the 58th to 78th floors of the 369m Haitian Center, the tallest building in this fast-growing coastal city in China’s Shandong province. The well-located site places guests within an hour of Qingdao Liuting International Airport and next to Fushan Bay, overlooking the Yellow Sea. LTW Designworks led the interior design of this impressive property, which references the heritage of the hotel brand and location through details such as a 74m wall of atrium art supporting the grand staircase.
The St. Regis Qingdao houses 233 rooms, including 30 luxury suites, as well as The Drawing Room for afternoon tea on the 59th floor, Yan Ting for Cantonese cuisine and local seafood, the all-day Social Restaurant, the New York inspired steakhouse Carvery and Panoramic Bar St Regis. Wellness facilities include the St Regis Spa, a fitness center and indoor infinity pool, as well as a 2000m² event space including a 900m² ballroom.
